Hi! I'm thinking of making my own household cleaners, because it will be environmentally friendly and possibly cheaper than using store bought ones. Would you care to share your favourite recipes and/websites with me?

cautionary tale about neglecting and stagnation... [01 Jul 2007|03:09pm]

[ mood | awake ]

...recently there was a house somewhat near me, and the lady had passed away or moved into a nursing home or something a while back, and the grownup kids simply did *nothing* with it, for like three years, except come by the mow the lawn or whatever once or twice a week...recently it got broken into, a lot of damage done, and the people who owned it were in the paper saying that "they shouldn't have to clean up the mess themselves" because bad guys did it, and bygawd the next week or so somebody set it on fire...! BADBAD! I certainly feel sorry for everybody involved, but to me, it seemed all about stagnantion and resisting moving on, which I think can be big issues in cleaning the house and fengshui and life and all: that if you don't take action, circumstances can really kick yer behind and *make* action happen, and they didn't take the first huge kick seriously enough to do something...it made me superhappy that, bad housekeeper though I am, I have been making some little steadyefforts to keep up with things in my house and life...! I found it really interesting (although certainly sad for the people involved, and bad karma for the people who did bad things), and thought that pagans might appreciate the energy aspect of it...

calendar CHAOS [19 Dec 2006|09:04am]

calendar CHAOS & Flylady stuff
For those of you that know who the Flylady is and what Flying is about this post is for you.

Last Thursday for the second time I got my daughter's therapy appointment wrong. I ran around nuts trying to get her there on time only to learn the appointment was this coming Thursday. I did that the week before too.

It was time for a calendar and control journal clean out and update!

I spent two hours gathering all the appointment cards from doctors, hair professionals, therapist etc. Then I found all the "you need to make an appointment" mailers from doctors and vets. Then I found the calendars there are three of them. I took the time needed to coordinate those three into one large calendar wipe of board in my kitchen and one small portable datebook for my control journal.

I called and made the appointments that were needed and all the cards when into the control journal calendar taped to the right dates to forwarn me that something was coming up.

Friday I went to the bank and got printouts of all of my accounts and did something that I haven't done in about a year...balanced my checkbooks. Ugh. My head still hurts from all the "whaps" it took on the tabletop.

I then went through the "what's due" folder and cleared out past due bills, knowing that they will send me a new one soon. I organized what is due by date and with the balanced checkbook, paid some bills.

I now feel like I am on top of my life again with knowing where my money is and where my life is going daily. I can now run my calendar without it running me.

Flybabies, are your calendars ready for the new year and are your checkbooks in order?

A useful ten seconds. [28 Oct 2006|01:05am]

I was in a pretty good Friday afternoon mood today. While the kids watched some TV I rushed about picking up toys and things. I was also cleaning my room. With great effort, I managed to actually get my dresser, bedside table, and cedar chest all cleared off and dusted, and I put away all my shoes and picked up the floor. I haven't had the dresser all nice and cleared off since I *got* it, in June. (The first thing I did when I brought it in was pile on top of it all the stuff that had previously been on the floor where it was going.)

So I felt all perky. As I saw 1cmf pulling in, I quickly put away the last of the clean laundry off the bed, and then dashed into the bathroom to pull myself together. You know, a little lipstick, brush my hair. This is not something I think is all that odd.

Apparently, I've been pretty casual around here. The husband came into the house and looked at me, then paused, and looked confused.

"Uh, are we going out tonight?" he asked me.

"No...tomorrow," I answered.

Another pause. He looked at me some more, sideways this time. "Are you going out?"

"No." I smiled. I realized... yeah, lipstick, hair just brushed, and I happened to be wearing a non-stained and nicely fitting shirt. "Just us."

"Oh," he answers. "I thought I forgot something."

It really only takes 10 seconds to spruce up at the end of the day.

Do you have a favorite FLyLady saying or quote? [30 Aug 2006|03:24am]

[ mood | curious ]

I am making FlyLady cross stitch patterns and chanda_m had the great idea to ask everyone here for help. I also think it will be great to find out whet everyone has to say. If anyone else is interested I will share the patterns I am designing them in PC stitch but might be able to put them in a PDF format with some help from our friends over at cross_stitch.

Flying through crisis. [02 Aug 2006|05:47pm]

I must be doing something right. Last week I had a family crisis to deal with, one that felt crazy and scary and beyond managing. I spent hours on the phone, couldn't eat, and couldn't sleep. On Friday afternoon, I managed to collect my thoughts, and also the crisis shifted a bit, into a less scary position. My husband, who had also been upset, had managed to calm himself down at work. So we came together Friday night, and were both actually ok. Then I looked around the house. It was clean! It was better than it had been before the crisis. I had been picking up toys, clearing hotspots, doing laundry, washing dishes, shining my sink...I had been working my routines, going completely on autopilot, because my life was just so far beyond managing. I have "flown" through crises before, and I guess I'm getting the hang of it. We had a good calm weekend, and I feel really good for helping to hold things together pretty well.

Teach me to take a day off [26 Jul 2006|11:09am]

Holy Handgrenade Batman! My house it trashed. I mean really trashed. I should say more I did nothing yesterday instead of taking a day off.

But that is alright I guess...I now know..how much I do in such a little time. So I guess my trashy apartment put it all in perspective for me.

I can't say i did nothing. I made a menu for the next two weeks. I am going grocery shopping tomorrow so I needed to do that. I need to recopy it for my control jounal. LOL...I mean my one page in my binder.

I have a really great cookbook I use. I got it when I got my first apartment. It is called Cheap. Fast. Good. LOL...There is even a section that shows you how to feed your family of 4 for a 100 dollars a week.

Hope things are going well with y'all

*you just can't shoot family* [24 Jul 2006|06:52pm]

Well I was talking to my father today. I was not bragging..but the subject of my housekeeping ablities or lack there of came up. He is always one for giving advice..He is a leo. LOL

He has not been over to the house sense I started flying. But I did say, that I thought He would be proud of the improvement. I told him I was even ready for him to knock on the door for a visit.

He naturally asked what had changed so I gave a breif rundown on flylady and Sink reflections. After telling me I should not have spent the money on the book he said."Well I could have told you that, but then that would mean you would have had to listen to me."

I swear that man can make me feel about a foot high when I talk to him.

But I am doing pretty good. It takes me about an hour to do my morning routine and a bit of crisis cleaning.

My kitchen looks good and I am decluttering like crazy. I have two boxes in my trunk ready for goodwill (i'll be taking them on thursday when I do my errands) I am resigned with the babies I won't ever have a perfectly clean house and I am okay with that.

[ mood | tired ]

How's everyone doing today?

It's a week before we move, and I'm having so much trouble getting up off my Franny today. I even took a bath in the middle of the day, and it worked for a bit, but I'm so worn out.

I even slept in today. It's probably because I'm hormonal... I am always tired when I'm hormonal.

But I'm trying the 15 minutes of working/packing/decluttering, and 30 minutes of rest thing... hopefully I'll get to everything on my to-do list. I don't know if as far as that goes, I'm biting off more than I can chew, or if I'm being realistic because there's so much to do and so little time.

I think I'll just do one load of laundry today, instead of all of it. I'll consider that a victory. And I'm going to pack up at least one car load of boxes and move it this evening. And vacuum and mop. That's it. That's manageable and I can do that.

If anyone knows how I can get some energy and motivation, please let me know.

Hello! [20 Jul 2006|01:14pm]

Well five days flying and what a difference! I can have people over ot my house! Sure I am still cluttered. There is more stuff than should be on the bar and I have a few too many toys in the living room, but can I just say...damn.

These past few days I have been struggling, not because of flylady, but because PMS is hitting me extra extra hard. My DH breaths and I want to shoot him. LOL.

I still can't have anybody hang out in my bedroom but that is alright..I don't want them in there anyway. But I'll get to it. Babysteps.

I also Joined Bratfactor. Because well I do have a brat that wants validation everytime I pick up a plate. LOL "NOTICE ME CLEANING!!! DAMN IT!!!!!!"

I can actually get to my alter! There is nothing in my way once I am there and the coffee table is clean enough to do tarot readings.

I just have to give big messy pagan love to flylady.

So how is everyone else???

[19 Jul 2006|02:46pm]

Today I was in one of the spare bedrooms, flinging left and right. I came across a stuffed monkey that my ex sent to me a year and a half ago, shortly before he committed suicide (over me leaving him, but that's an entirely different story).

I considered the monkey. I always thought that he was cute, but then I thought about all that it represents. All of the blaming me and the self-destruction and guilt trips and all sorts of negative emotions.

"You're poison," I said to the monkey, and into the trash it went.

So [18 Jul 2006|01:15pm]

How is everyone flying today? I hope things are going well with y'all.

I have discovered that I can't fly with my DH still up. He works nights so when he is up in the morning, nothing gets done.

I got over my hump yesterday and I am doing good today. I have a big project today..but I am going to do it in 15 minute invervels. I am going to clean out my fridge. (OH THE HORROR) I hope nothing tries to fight back!

Later People!

[17 Jul 2006|01:58pm]

You guys, I'm so glad people are posting in here again. I really like this community.

Today is "HOLY CRAP WE ARE MOVING IN TWO WEEKS AND WE HAVE FAR TOO MUCH CLUTTER" day. Right now I live in a three bedroom townhouse and I don't know where I'm moving next. Back in with my parents for a while though. (meh.) Which means my partner and I have to get rid of an ENTIRE HOUSE worth of stuff, INCLUDING FURNITURE, because our next place will likely be a one bedroom apartment.

There's so much to do...

So what I'm doing today, shoes on and FLYing as hard as I can, is setting my timer for 15 minutes and working. Throwing away a lot of stuff and donating a lot of stuff. When my timer goes off, I set it for 30 minutes, and rest. I drink my water and read some Flylady email that I need to catch up on (does anyone else go for a few days without reading any?) and play video games and read Livejournal and basically be lazy. And then it's back to 15 minutes. I find I get a lot done this way. I really am amazed at how much I can get done in just 15 minutes.

How's everyone else doing?

Monday Monday Mornings [17 Jul 2006|01:02pm]

Gah I can't get started. I haven't done anything today and it is after 1 here. geez. I would hate to prove my husband right this early in the game.

Yesterday was good. I woke up to a clean and shiney sink this morning. I got dressed to shoes. But as far as hotspots or anything..it is "i'll do it later mode." Okay, this typeing it out is guilting me into getting busy. LOL I had planed to do a two hour crisis cleaning...and hot spot the table by my couch.

On a happier note...I took my first box to goodwill while I was out running errands this morning.

Maybe later today..I can work on actually putting together a control journal...I don't know how that is going to work though. day planners and the ilk never work with me.

Here is hopeing you all are flying with the gods today.

Good morning People [16 Jul 2006|09:18am]

Well day two and I am dressed to my shoes this morning. yesterday was agravating but fun. And I do like the look of my sink this morning.

So What do I have planned to day? Hitting a few zones and tackleing a hot spot or two. And maybe even a 27 fling boogie in my kids room.

Thinking about what I was going to do today, seemed like an awful lot and was a bit scary, but typing it out just now, it does not seem so bad.

Hope your days are going well

Flying without my broom [15 Jul 2006|12:32pm]

Hi all. I bought Sink reflextions yesterday and I am almost half way through it...I wanted to read it first to see if it was something I could do..

And you know what? I am really excited because I think I can actually do it. I did some grocery shopping today and got me a new pair of shoes and some new socks.

I am fixing to go shine my sink. I know this come is a bit dead...but I hope you guys haven't gone away. Just with Vacations and summer are off doing other things.

Anyway I hope to hear from you.

What's the best way to get stains out of a carpet?
How about crusted-on food & sauces?
...all of these have been setting for awhile (some a few months, I'm assuming). They range from tomato sauce to unknown to blue Kool-Aid and red shave-ice syrup.

Part two to this question is: has anyone used a steam cleaner on their carpet? Any particular brands, types, etc that are better or different than any others?

(for the record, yes I know not to let stains set. They're not mine.)
